GCELE examinations evaluate the skills of individuals learning a second language, covering reading, writing, and speaking. These tests serve as a roadmap for both candidates and instructors, facilitating progress from beginner level 1 to proficiency at level C1. Designed for learners of all ages, GCELE exams provide a systematic pathway towards mastering English language proficiency across eight progressive stages.

EXAM LEVELS

The adventure starts now

Launch 1 (Pre A1)

This is the beginning of the GCELE language learning journey. Learners are introduced to basic everyday English and gain confidence to communicate at a basic level, demonstrating an understanding of common vocabulary and grammar categories.

Launch 2 (Pre A1+)

In this 2nd level, learners continue their linguistic journey. They take a step further towards being able to use basic vocabulary and simple sentences to engage in daily experiences with added abilities like writing short messages and emails and interacting in a simple way.

Launch 3 (Pre A1+ – A1)

With Launch 3, the expectation is to understand and use familiar everyday expressions, communicate in simple and routine ways that require a direct exchange of information on familiar topics. They can describe aspects of their background, environment and immediate needs. 

Rise 1 (A1)

With Rise 1, learners can understand and use common phrases and expressions related to immediate needs, engage in routine conversations on familiar topics and  handle more intricate social interactions.

Rise 2  (A1+ – A2)

With Rise 2, learners can understand clear, standard speech and engage in conversations on familiar topics, express opinions, give reasons, and talk about personal experiences and  travel-related situations.

Elevate 1 (A2+ – B1)

With Elevate 1, learners are able to follow more advanceed conversation on familiar topics, engage in discussions, and express opinions on current events and begin to handle more abstract ideas. Writing is also more developed, with learners able to articulate arguments with improved fluency.

Elevate 2 (B1 – B1+)

With the 7th step of the GCELE level ladder, learners can understand extended speech and complex texts on familiar topics, including media and news reports. They can interact with fluency and spontaneity in conversations, discussing complex ideas or opinions with more precision explaining viewpoints clearly.

Advance (B1+ – B2)

This 8th step is the last exam in the GCELE journey. Learners can confidently discuss abstract topics and give detailed explanations, follow complex arguments and ideas, and produce more nuanced spoken and written responses with clear organization and detailed arguments.

How does GCELE align with the European Framework for Languages?

English Language Certification
Test-takers who successfully complete the GCELE series earn English certification, positioning them well for more advanced tests such as TOEFL, TOEIC, and IELTS. Although the GCELE is relatively new, over ten thousand students have already taken the test with great acclaim and satisfaction.

When can I take the exam and where?

We have an appointed examination center in Limassol, Cyprus,  where you can take exams every June. Usually, exams take place in the last week of June at the Xenia Tsolaki Metaxa Private Institute (XTMPI).
